THE Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Health Monitoring,  Dr. Michael Nwoko, has said that vaccination against Covid-19 pandemic is absolutely necessary.

He stated that Delta State Government is not making vaccination a compulsion but roundly putting efforts in place to ensure that vast majority of its citizens get vaccinated in record time.

Nwoko who was on live interview to discuss Delta Vaccination Update on Channels TV, commended the Delta State Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa for his consistent effort in creating the enabling environment for the vaccination program in the State and making sure that all the pillars responsible for the enforcement of the vaccination policy are put in place.

The SSA was optimistic that more vaccines would come to Nigeria and Delta State, even though it is still a far cry that Africa has only vaccinated about three percent of her population against the United States of America that has vaccinated 53 percent of her adult population, United Kingdom about 60 percent of her adult population while Israel has already achieved herd immunity.

Dr. Nwoko insisted that Delta State is doing well in the Vaccination programme in the areas of sensitization,   distribution of vaccines and vaccination of its population across board, irrespective of the fact that vaccine hesitancy still exists in some quarters.

Giving the record of the Vaccination programme,  Dr. Nwoko said the second phase of Vaccination began on the 26th August, 2021, with the arrival of 16,080 Oxford Astrazeneca Vaccine on 25th August while the Moderna Vaccine was 87,037. Out of these doses, a total of 14,135 and 36,470 had been vaccinated with the Astrazeneca and Mordena Vaccines respectively.

Nwoko said it is also on recorded that the state recently received about 47,000 doses of Oxford Astrazeneca Vaccines from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency.

He however,  appealed to citizens of Delta, Nigeria and Africa to get vaccinated and be protected against virus mutation and breeding of other variants of the virus, while equally positing that Vaccination Officers are being encouraged to move from community to community to ensure that more people are covered in the Vaccination programme.
