Crystal Palace inflicted a stunning first defeat on Liverpool’s perfect start to the season, securing a thrilling 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
The Reds had arrived in London having won five games on the bounce, but they were quickly overwhelmed in the first half by a dynamic Palace side. Oliver Glasner’s men dominated the chances and went into the break with only Ismaila Sarr’s well-taken finish to show for their efforts.
Palace failed to convert their early second-half opportunities, and the lapse was punished when a substitute, Luis Diaz, came off the bench to level the scores in the 75th minute.
However, there was late, decisive drama. Deep into stoppage time, a Palace forward smashed in a 98th-minute winner to send the home crowd wild and confirm Liverpool’s first loss of the campaign.
The win also ensures Palace’s strong run of form continues.
