Delta APC Conducts Peaceful LGA Congress, Elects Executives By Consensus

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Saturday successfully conducted its Local Government Area (LGA) Congress across the 25 council areas of the state, with party executives emerging through consensus in a peaceful and well-coordinated exercise.

The congress, which recorded impressive turnout, was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, party officials and members of the media.

Members of the APC National Committee assigned to Delta State were earlier received at the party secretariat in Asaba by the State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie.

He commended the committee for the successful conduct of the ward congress and urged them to adhere strictly to party guidelines in overseeing the LGA Congress.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, its Secretary, Hon. Simon Atigwe assured members that their mission was to ensure a transparent and inclusive process that would strengthen unity and internal harmony within the party.

Atigwe who spoke to newsmen at the congress venue in Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area, after monitoring the exercise across the three senatorial districts, expressed satisfaction with the level of participation and the orderly conduct of members in all the Local Government Areas the committee visited.

He described Delta as a special state for the APC, noting the peaceful atmosphere and adequate security arrangements.

Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Dr. Kelvin Ezenyili, described the exercise as rancour-free, stressing that the executives emerged through sincere consensus and affirmation.

In Oshimili North at Akwukwu-Igbo, party leaders including Hon. Frank Esenwa, Hon. Innocent Esewezie, Chief Patrick Ukah and Mr. Olisa Ifeajika lauded the peaceful conduct of the congress, describing the high turnout as a reflection of stakeholders’ endorsement of the consensus arrangement.

In Uvwie Local Government Area, Sylvester Oghenewede emerged as Chairman of the APC. In his acceptance speech, he pledged to foster unity and strengthen the party’s structure. The outgoing chairman, Wilfred Emeleji, congratulated the new executive and assured them of his support.

Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, commended members for the successful congress and urged them to work towards the reelection of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in 2027.

In Isoko North, Mr. Sunday Omonakome was elected Chairman alongside other executive members at the congress held at the council secretariat in Ozoro. Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Council, Hon. Godwin Ogorugba, and Member Representing Isoko North Constituency, Hon. Bernard Odior, hailed the peaceful conduct of the exercise and called for sustained unity among members.

Similarly, in Isoko South, Mr. Victor Ekelega emerged Chairman at the affirmative congress held at Oleh Township Stadium. Party leaders including the Chief of Staff, Government House, Prince Johnson Erijo, Hon. Bino Obowomano and Hon. Warri Ovoke Friday commended stakeholders for the peaceful process and pledged to work collectively for electoral success in 2027.

In Ughelli North, Mr. Lucky Ofomukoro emerged Chairman at the congress held at Oharisi Primary School. Party leader, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and the Local Government Council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo assured members of strong mobilisation efforts ahead of future elections and commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

In Ughelli South, a new executive led by Mr. Ojay Edirin Ojigho was elected through consensus by during the congress held at Otu-Jeremi. Olorogun John Oguma who spoke to newsmen during the congress, commended all stakeholders for the peaceful conduct of the congress.

In Ika North-East, Mr. Emeka Asiwe was elected Chairman following a consensus process in line with party guidelines. Leaders including former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu commended the transparent and inclusive conduct of the exercise.

In Ethiope West, Mr. Clement Okorodide emerged Chairman at the congress held at Onogborhe Primary School, Ovade-Oghara. Prominent party leaders including; Chief Ighoyota Amori, Hon Ben Igbakpa, Hon. John Nani and Hon. Halims Agoda described the congress as peaceful, orderly, transparent and reflective of unity in the area.

In Ethiope East, Mr. Midwest Iboyitete was elected Chairman at the Government Pavilion in Isiokolo, with leaders including; Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, Chief Bernard Edewor, Dr. Ben Edoja, Hon. Akpodiogaga Emeyese, Hon. Felix Erhimedafe and Chief Faith Majemite expressing confidence in the party’s renewed strength.

With the emergence of new executives across the state, party stakeholders expressed optimism that the APC in Delta State remains united, cohesive and better positioned for future electoral contests.
