MAJ.-Gen. Dickson Ehiorobo, Corps Commander, Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, has urged commanders and officers of the corps to continue to enhance the capacity of their personnel.
Ehiorobo gave the charge on Monday in Auchi, Edo, in his opening remarks at the opening of a three-day Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps Commander’s first quarter conference.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the army corps conference is holding at Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo.
Ehiorobo said that the capacity building was with a view to providing quality, timely and efficient equipment support to formations and units in the Nigerian Army (NA).

He noted that the equipment support provided by the Corps in 2022 in various theatres of operation was commendable.

Ehiorobo disclosed that lots had been achieved in terms of repairs, recovery, innovations as well as Research and Development (R&D) in support of the Nigerian Army operations.

He added that those current realities necessitated the corps to engage in robust R&D, reverse engineering and innovations to produce required components, spares and assemblies towards ensuring the needed equipment support for all Nigerian Army operations.

NAN reports that the corps’ conference is aimed at discussing the outcome of the Chief of Army Staff’s Annual Conference 2021 and to appraise the performance of Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in 2021.

It is also to sensitise field commanders of the Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers commanders to how best to support all Nigerian Army activities in 2022.

It is to serve too as an avenue to discuss training, operational activities and other technical matters concerning the corps.

The theme of the conference is “Sustaining the Effectiveness of the Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers towards Providing Robust Equipment Support to the Nigerian Army”.

Brig.-Gen Aniedi Edet, Acting Commandant Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, field commanders of the Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Commanding Officers and other Senior Officers attended the event.

Highlight of the opening ceremony was the inauguration of the newly-constructed Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Multipurpose Hall.

A lecture on “Leveraging Homegrown Capacity for NA’s Equipment Needs through Innovation, Creativity and Reverse Engineering” was also delivered by Lt.-Col. Abubakar Imam, an Associate Professor from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna state.
