The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged communities where government projects are sited to maintain them in order to enjoy the full benefits of such capital development in line with the MORE Agenda.
Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, Oborevwori made the call during the commissioning of some projects executed by the Chairman of Ukwuani Local Government Council, Hon. Possible Ajede, said that it was the responsibility of such communities to ensure adequate maintenance of such projects.
“It is not enough for government to execute these projects in your area, it is important that you maintain them, protect them because you are the greatest beneficiaries of these projects,” the governor said.
The projects commissioned by the governor in Ukwuani local government area include the Ebedei Ultra Modern Onotu-Uku Palace, Ebedei, Eziokpor Ultra Modern Town Hall Eziokpor and the Obiaruku Ultra Modern Abattoir at Obiaruku.
The governor said that the maintenance of government executed projects was key to its sustenance for the benefits of the communities.
He said the lack of maintenance culture by some communities had hindered the full usage and longevity of such projects as the people don’t enjoy the purpose of citing such projects in their towns.
Oborevwori advised communities to remain peaceful and support his administration’s MORE agenda.
The governor commended the Chairman of Ukwuani local government Council for embarking on projects based on the need assessment of the communities adding that the people were happy with him.
At the Obiaruku Abattoir, the governor said the project would enhance hygienically prepared meat fit for consumption and also increase the internally generated revenue of the Council.
The Chairman of Ukwuani Local Government Council, Honourable Possible Ajede, said the abattoir would boost the local economy and provide regulated and hygienic processing of meat that would prevent the spread of diseases associated with contaminated meats.
The Onotuku of Oziegbe, Obiaruku, Chief Chekem Daphey, said the abattoir was one of the needs of the community and commended the Ukwuani Council Boss for embarking on the project saying it would bring more development to the area.
At Ebedei, Hon. Oborevwori lauded Hon. Possible Ajede for constructing a befitting palace for the Onotu-Uku saying he had met the expectations of the people.
The Chairman, Ukwuani Local Government Council, Ajede said the people of Ebedei requested for the construction of a palace for the Onotu-Uku describing it as a symbol of unity,peace and progress .
He added that a bore hole,power generating set and burglary proof would be provided for the palace.
Spokesman of the Ebedei Community,Chief Rupert Edike thanked the Ukwuani council boss for acceding to their request and appealed for a borehole,power generating set and burglary proof for the palace.
At Eziokpor, the governor lauded the people for their support to the People’s Democratic Party and urged them to continue to support the Oborevwori administration’s MORE agenda noting that more projects would be attracted to the area .
Ajede told the governor that the Eziokpor town hall would give the people a conducive atmosphere anytime they meet to deliberate on issues concerning them.
The Ogbumi of Eziokpor Clan, Chief Felix Osuya thanked Honourable Possible Ajede for the town hall project and solicited for the completion of the Eziokpor Umuoshi to Eziokpor- Uno road,completion of the Obi Ugbe Eziokpor road and the construction of the Eziokpor to Ebedei road as well as the reconnection of Eziokpor electricity.
In a related development, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Monday, commissioned a town hall at Utagba-Uno and market at Obi-Ukpo both in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.
The projects by the Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, were executed by Hon. Obi Nzete led Ndokwa West Council.
Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Delta North, Elder Moses Iduh, Rear Admiral Mike Onah, OON, Chief Fidelis Tilije, Chief Festus Ochonogor, Hon. Ochor Christopher Ochor, Sir Christopher Osakwe, Hon. Chuks Nwaebuni, Ogbuefi Lucky Okuji, among others, attended the ceremonies.
