In recent times, I have refrained from making comments on trending topics. But I will take a short break to comment on the airport saga.
All the posts and comments I have read on this case and that of KWAM 1 seem to be missing out on the real issue here – the absence of proper airport security..
It is obvious we do not have well trained, professional security operatives with defined rules of engagement.
The ones I saw in both cases don’t qualify. They just did what came to their minds, the typical Nigerian way. I find that disturbing. Very disturbing.
In the case of KWAM 1, the moment he stood in front of the aircraft, if we had well trained, professional security personnel, they would have immediately accosted him, cuffed him, and escorted him out of the tarmac. And none of the drama that we saw would have happened. Instead, I saw airline staff and so-called security personnel pleading with him. Unbelievable.
In the case of this lady, if the airline had notified security, they should have been waiting at the aircraft’s parking spot.
Then before anybody disembarks, they would step into the aircraft and escort the lady out. There will be no drama, no shouting, no fighting. That is how things are done.
In Nigeria, we leave the substance and chase shadows. Much of our national discourse is driven by emotions and sentiments.
The issue of airport security is the conversation we should be having, not taking sides with anybody.
