EDEOGHO BENJAMIN is a Sociology graduate and is the CEO of Oghene-Leno Polythenes, Asaba. He had worked as a banker with two microfinance banks before he enrolled and trained in the Delta State Government’s Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) in the 2016/2017 cycle. He was trained in Tiling. He hails from Isoko North Local Government Area.
His tiling skill has taken him around the whole of the Niger Delta Region to execute projects which were quite rewarding. For health challenges, he diversified to production of polythene bags, though he still executes tiling projects occasionally. He produces all kinds of polythene bags such as big handless bags, small handless bags, cellophane nylon of all sizes and customized nylon bags which he sells to wholesalers only. Hear him.
“I feel fulfilled working for myself, being able to pay my bills and provide for my family. The Orientation and Personal Effectiveness Training (OPET) and the Entrepreneurship and Business Management Training (EBMT) experiences gave me the idea of what challenges are in business and how not to give up no matter the obstacles.
“From my savings as a banker and tiling, I procured equipment for my polythene business with about ₦1.5m. STEP has placed smile on my face and the faces of so many serious-minded youths who know what they want out of life. STEP taught us how to be self-reliant and how to create jobs for ourselves in the face of unemployment in this country. I run my business with my family, so I do not need an employee yet.
“I have acquired two plots of land in Ozoro and in Ibusa. I appreciate the Delta State Government for the follow-up. It is my prayer that governments after Governor Okowa continue with the programme.”
