The Delta State Government has assured citizens of increased developmental strides in rural and urban infrastructure, healthcare, and education over the next two years, building on the progress recorded since Governor Sheriff Oborevwori assumed office.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, during an interview with ADBN TV on Tuesday, June 24.

Reflecting on the administration’s midterm review, Aniagwu noted that the two-year milestone celebrated on May 29 marks not just a moment of reflection, but the beginning of a more aggressive implementation phase.

“We are already in the next two years, and a number of projects are underway. One of such is the rural road that will link our people in Aboh-Akarai Road in Ndokwa East. The aim is to improve connectivity and open up more economic opportunities for our rural communities,” he said.

Aniagwu also highlighted significant investments in the healthcare sector. He revealed that the state has acquired a large consignment of medical equipment targeted at upgrading its tertiary hospitals.

“As part of our healthcare reform, the government has approved the installation of advanced medical equipment such as MRI machines and CT Scanners across all three senatorial districts. These upgrades are aimed at elevating the quality of healthcare services across the state.

“We have also recorded remarkable progress in healthcare delivery, with more than 150 primary health care centres revamped, while major secondary and tertiary health institutions are also being rehabilitated and equipped.

On education, he announced a major policy shift affecting lecturers in the state’s tertiary institutions.

“The government has approved that associate professors can now retire at 70 years, which aligns with federal standards and recognizes the critical role of senior academics in knowledge development,” he said.

Aniagwu also hinted at ongoing reviews in the university system, including improvements to commencement grades and policies that would enhance the welfare of academic staff.

“We are examining the entire university framework, particularly around staff recruitment and promotion standards. These reforms are aimed at ensuring Delta remains competitive in the higher education sector,” he said.

He noted that despite the challenges facing various sectors nationwide, the Oborevwori administration remains committed to delivering on its promises.

“Doctors, lecturers, and indeed the general public will soon see more robust project execution and policy implementation. The governor is determined to accelerate development even as the 2026 electioneering period approaches,” he added.

Aniagwu concluded by reaffirming the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and accelerated development in the years ahead, stating that Governor Oborevwori remains focused on leaving a lasting legacy of good governance and impactful service delivery.
