DELTA BROADCAST MEDIA CONFERENCE – 2ND EDITION
Theme: The Broadcast Media as a Democratic Catalyst: Shaping Public Trust and Electoral Credibility in 2027.
As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, the Delta Broadcast Media Conference (2nd Edition) provides a timely platform to examine the indispensable role of broadcast media in strengthening democracy, promoting public trust, and safeguarding electoral credibility.
In an era where misinformation, disinformation, fake news, and hate speech continue to threaten national cohesion, undermine confidence in public institutions, and distort the electoral process, the conference will bring together government officials, policymakers, media executives, broadcasters, regulators, security stakeholders, academics, development partners, and civil society to develop practical strategies for promoting accurate, ethical, and responsible journalism.
Held in partnership with the Delta State Government and aligned with the MORE Agenda, the conference will deepen collaboration between government and the media to ensure that factual, timely, and people-centred information reaches every community. It will strengthen the capacity of media professionals to combat fake news through fact-checking, ethical reporting, digital verification, and responsible broadcasting, while encouraging constructive engagement between public institutions and citizens.
The conference will also provide an opportunity for the Delta State Government to showcase its commitment to transparency, accountability, peacebuilding, and inclusive governance by engaging directly with key communication stakeholders. Through stronger partnerships with the media, government policies, programmes, and developmental achievements can be communicated more effectively, fostering greater public understanding and confidence.
For media practitioners, the conference offers a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, learn global best practices, and strengthen professional standards in election coverage and public communication. For Deltans, it promises a more informed society where credible information prevails over falsehood, public trust is strengthened, democratic participation is encouraged, and peace and stability are preserved before, during, and after the 2027 elections.
The Delta Broadcast Media Conference – 2nd Edition is more than a conference; it is a strategic investment in the future of democracy, responsible broadcasting, and sustainable development. It is a call for government, the media, and citizens to work together in protecting the integrity of information and building a more transparent, peaceful, and prosperous Delta State.
