CURFEW: NBA Calls On Security Agencies To Uphold Fundamental Human Rights Rules

THE Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Warri branch has called on the military and other security agencies to uphold fundamental human rights rules in line with the rules of engagement of the military during the curfew imposed in different states of the country as a result of #ENDSARS protest.

The NBA made the call on Monday when the branch led by Chief Emmanuel O. Uti, paid a courtesy visit on the Sector Commander, Sector 1, Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Delta Safe, 3 Battalion Baracks, Effurun, Col. S. Ahmed.

According to the NBA Chairman, “lawyers should be included amongst the essential services group during the curfew period to enable the lawyers to be available for the citizens whose rights are likely to be trampled upon.”

He assured that lawyers by the nature of their job, would continue to defend citizens whose rights are trampled on and urged security agencies to continue to carry out their duties diligently in safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians.

Col. Ahmed in his response, thanked the NBA for the visit and assured the bar of a more robust relationship.

Some of the branch officers who paid the courtesy visit include, Aikpokpo Martins, 1st Vice President; Kunle Edun, National Welfare Secretary; Francis C. Okala, Vice Chairman; Joseph Omonoseh, branch Secretary; Taiga Ejomafuvwe (Miss), Branch Treasurer; Clarke Gregory, branch Publicity Secretary; Tuggen Donald, Branch Legal Adviser; and Clement Ewulum, branch Welfare Secretary.
