Arrangements have been concluded for the smooth commencement of the 3-Day State Communication Workshop with the Theme: Advancing Delta – Strategies for Public Communication and Effective Media Engagement, scheduled to hold at Hotel Benizia Asaba from 17th to 19th December, 2024.

The capacity building and professional skills development program is a deliberate effort of the Delta State Government through the State Bureau of Communications and Orientation, to enhance the performance of media aides to the governor, selected social media influencers and media partners, in line with the human capital development initiative of governor Sheriff Oborevwori, as encapsulated in the MORE Agenda.

The Director-General, Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Oghenesivbe, disclosed this on Wednesday while speaking as a guest of Orientation Panorama, a live programme on Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba, saying that the 5th edition of Delcom promises to be a special brain storming exercise that would enable participants to deliver more effectively on their assigned responsibilities.

He assured that the training would enable participants to effectively and efficiently articulate and project the ongoing implementation of the MORE agenda, as well as the numerous achievements of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, pointing out that government would continue to invest in the training and retraining of it’s media personnel, as new trends evolves in the media and communication industry.

According to him, “There is need for deliberate training and retraining. Times are changing and technology is evolving.

“The media aides of His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, and our esteemed media partners need to be taught on how to use Artificial intelligence, AI, to generate contents and stories effectively.

“They need to be conversant with the state communication policy developed to point the way forward for media appointees on how to deploy media and communication strategies to effectively project the MORE Agenda and the achievements of governor Oborevwori.

“Participants need to know what it takes to sell the MORE Agenda through effective and result oriented public communication and social media engagements. This is very important.

“If you go to the media space, a lot of things are going on there,.both negative and positive engagements. This workshop would handle these issues occuring daily in the media space, with emphasis on positive engagements.

“Media Aides to the Governor and our partners shall be exposed to specific public relations models in public communications, to be handled by seasoned communication scholars and media professionals namely; Prof Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, Prof Joyce Ogwezi and Dr Emmanuel Akpoveta.” Oghenesivbe assured.

Dr Oghenesivbe, who is also the State Workshop Facilitator, disclosed that the training comprised nine modules and three brain storming exercises as groups assignment, to be keenly supervised by DELCOM trainers led by Professor Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, a renowned world class communication scholar and Director of the Institute of Continuing Education, and former Head of Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos.
