CHAIRMAN of Delta State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, who was whisked away to unknown destination by gun-wielding men last weekend has been released.

Newsden.com.ng authoritative sources among labour leaders in Delta disclosed that Ofobruku was released on Monday night.

His release elicited jubilation at Labour House, GRA, Asaba.

Police spokesperson in Delta State, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, when confirming the kidnap of the labour leader, said, “The incident was a case of armed robbery and abduction.

“The gunmen were robbing in the street when the labour leader was driving out of his home.

“They intercepted his car and forcefully abducted him and took him to the nearby bush,”

Secretary of NLC in the state, Comrade Innocent Ofuonyade, told journalists that Ofobruku was driving in the congress’s official Toyota Sienna space bus before he was abducted.

“The chairman was on his way out that night to get some drugs when the incident occurred.

“He was intercepted by the hoodlums along his street and taken away,” Ofunyadi said.

Confirming the release of the labour leader, Special Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Labour Relations and SERVICOM, Mr Mike Okeme, said in an exclusive chat with newsden.com.ng, that, “We are happy that he came back hale and hearty.

“His abduction calls for the security situation in the country to be beefed up, people cannot just be picked along the road by kidnappers.

“We are happy that he is out and we thank God.

“We also thank all those who intensified efforts for him to be released and I commend the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa for his efforts.

“Yes! I can confirm that Comrade Oforbruku has been released and we give God thanks,” Comrade Okeme said,
