The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D., has said that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is committed to ensuring that all facets of the education sector receive deserved attention.
He stated this on Thursday in Asaba when he received a delegation from the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), led by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Angela Ajala, on a courtesy visit.
According to the Deputy Governor, Delta State remains a hub of academic excellence with a massive educational infrastructure spread across the state.
He said, “we have a lot of schools across the state; our state is an education-driven state; we encourage learning, and we export educational talent to other parts of the country and even beyond Nigeria.
”Regarding funding, your advice that government must be particularly intentional about funding teacher education is well taken; we will examine our current strategies, identify existing gaps, and see where further improvements can be made.
”Our commitment to this sector is why the Ministry of Education in Delta State has been unbundled into distinct ministries: Higher Education, Primary Education, Secondary Education, and Technical Education; this structure ensures that every segment receives specialized and focused attention.”
He assured the NCCE of the Delta State Government’s partnership in filling any identified gaps in the education sector.
Earlier, Dr. Ajala had commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s giant strides in education.
Some of those who accompanied the Executive Secretary on the visit included the Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, Dr. James Azuka Oliseh; Dr. Fidelia Ighrakpata, Provost, College of Education, Warri; and Dr. Lawrence Osagiede, Provost, College of Education, Ekiadolor, Benin City, among others.
