“It is not easy to find persons who are selfless enough to invest their hard-earned resources in the welfare and care for the general public.

“This six-bed Intensive Care Unit is a major contribution to the healthcare content of the M.O.R.E Agenda of my administration and I sincerely commend the Chuks Agidigbo Leadership Foundation for donating this facility, which will go a long way in alleviating the needs of patients who require intensive care in this hospital.

“During moments of healthcare emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic, this unit becomes very handy and the job is made easier for both the patients and healthcare personnel.

“I am particularly appreciative of the fact that you did not just erect the building, you equipped it with modern ICU requirements – ventilators, oxygen piping and equipment, patient monitors, patient bed head units, oxygen concentrators, among others; this is a clear demonstration of a whole-hearted selfless donation and sacrifice for the common good.”

The governor emphasised that “the provision of infrastructure and sustainable development in general, cannot be left to government alone; we therefore, beckon on organisations, individuals and corporate bodies to emulate this good and selfless gesture in providing necessary facilities to help our people; what this organisation has done will surely remain in the hearts and minds of the people who are beneficiaries of the project.

“With this laudable intervention from private sector, the goal of addressing the medical needs of our people in every part of the state will be easier to attain.

“Other philanthropic organisations, public spirited individuals and development partners should assist the state government not only in the provision of healthcare needs but in all spheres of sustainable development. ”

Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, had in an address read by Dr. Paul Oweh, Chairman, Hospital Management Board, observed that the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is encouraging public-spirited individuals, corporate bodies and non-governmental organisations to contribute and partner with government in delivering qualitative and affordable health care to Deltans.

He stated that, “government will always try its best to ensure a conducive environment for public-spirited individuals, corporate bodies and non-governmental organisations to function effectively in their noble quest to complement the efforts of government in the provision of qualitative healthcare for our people.

“The Chuks Agidigbo Leadership Foundation and Medast Limited has clearly distinguished itself in a very outstanding way through this singular philanthropic action of donating a six-bed Intensive Care Unit to Delta State Ministry of Health – an action which epitomises the great spirit of humanitarianism, selflessness and the desire to serve Deltans.

“I wish to thank the Chuks Agidigbo Leadership Foundation and Medast Limited profusely for this wonderful gift, we accept it in good faith, and assert that they will certainly be put to the best use for the saving of Deltans across the state.”

Mr Chuks Agidigbo at the occasion, stated that, the donation was motivated by his belief that “with private sector support, government’s efforts in the healthcare sector and every other sector could be given the required boost.

“Since the advent of COVID-19, there has been a heightened awareness of the deep-rooted infrastructural gap in the healthcare sector; of course, this has attracted a very huge spending from government and international donor agencies at the state and federal levels.

“A humble project like this can cost the government over 100 million naira, but because it is a private sector initiative, it has cost the government nothing to own; now if we have multiplicity of this kind of private sector initiative from the organized private sector and public-spirited individuals, one can imagine how much positive impact that could have on our health system. ”

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, the member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, former member of House of Representatives, Hon. Sam Osasa, member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Charles Emetulu, Commissioner for Urban Renewal, Delta State, Hon. Michael Anoka, Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta State, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, the Ndemili Townhall, among others, commended Pastor Agidigbo for making such donation which will boost the health sector of the state and the country.

Also present at the occasion were the Deputy Chief of Staff to Delta State Government, Sir Chris Osakwe who represented Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Health, Hon. Ferguson Onwo, Oduosa of Utagba-Ogbe, HRH Isaac Obi, the Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Delta North, Engr. Dan Ossai, the Executive Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Protocol, Pastor Powell Ovuokeyen, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Chieftaincy Matters, Patrick Ogelenya, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Oborevwori on Media, Sir Fidelis Egugbo, the Chairman, PDP, Ndokwa West, Chief Anslem Nzete, the Zonal Medical Director of Kwale Central Hospital, Dr Patrick Ofili, traditional chiegs, among others
