The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through its Department of Development Control, has demolished unauthorised parks and illegal structures built on a green area at Apo Zone E, Gudu District, Abuja.

Director of the Department of Development Control, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, led the operation alongside officials from the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Galadima explained that the structures violated the Abuja Master Plan and lacked government approval.

“During our normal weekly inspection today at Apo Zone E, Gudu District, we discovered strange developments in the area. The structures were built on green areas and water channels, so we had to stop the work,” Galadima said.

He noted that the illegal parks extended their structures into road corridors, while structures on the green area obstructed waterways which can cause erosion and flooding if left unchecked.

“We will continue to monitor developments, and any illegal developer that refuses to stop unauthorized construction will be arrested. Other structures that have been completed will also be pulled down,” he warned.

Mr. Chinemelu Echee, Director of Parks and Recreation, stressed the administration’s efforts to reclaim green areas converted for unauthorized uses.

He also condemned the indiscriminate cutting of trees by individuals carrying out illegal developments.

“All parks discovered to be operating without genuine approval will not be allowed to stand,” Echee said, while noting the need to preserve Abuja’s green spaces and environmental integrity.
