Flood: AUDU Leadership Seeks Succour For Abala Indigenes

The leadership of Abala-Uno Development Union (AUDU), Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Delta State, has cried to Delta State Government to assist in cushioning the pain of the ravaging flood on the people of Abala kingdom.

The Abala kingdom is made up of Abala-Uno, Abala-Oshimili and Abala-Obodo.

The President General of the AUDU and Owele of Abala Kingdom, Chief Engr. Godwin Nwadialor, made the appeal during an interview with newsmen on the impact of the current flood on the community.

The President General pointed out that the ravaging flood had swept the entire kingdom, destroying farm produce and properties worth millions of Naira.

He then called on the state and local governments and other relevant authorities, including State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and well-meaning individuals to come to their aid, stressing that the indigenes, mostly peasant farmers that had lost their annual produce to the flood, needed assistance now and aftermath of the flood disaster as there will be shortage food items.

He particularly appealed to the federal government and the state government to do the needful in checkmating the flood, which had become a yearly occurrence.

In a separate interview with the Odogwu of Abala kingdom, Chief Dr. Christopher Iwale, he pleaded with the government of Delta State to come to the aid of the Abala people, who had through self-help, evacuated about 70 per cent of the inhabitants trapped in the community, sending about 30 per cent to emergency IDP camps.

According to the Odogwu, the community had been taking charge of the wellbeing of victims, till date, recalling the press release by Ndokwa East local government that Abala kingdom recorded the highest ratio of flood destruction in terms of agricultural farm produce and household displacement.
