President Bola Tinubu officially swore in General Christopher Musa (Rtd) as the Minister of Defence on Thursday at the State House.
The ceremony follows the Senate’s confirmation of the former Chief of Defence Staff on Wednesday, after a five-hour screening session. During the confirmation hearings, General Musa faced tough questions regarding recent security breaches.
Key among the concerns raised was the controversial withdrawal of troops from a secondary school in Maga, Kebbi State, immediately preceding the abduction of schoolgirls on November 17. The new Minister committed to launching a full-scale investigation into the troop withdrawal upon assuming his duties. He also vowed to probe attacks on senior military personnel, including the killing of Brigade Commander Brig-Gen. Musa Uba in Borno State.
