AS Nigerians mark Democracy Day,  the Governor of Delta State,  Senator Dr.  Ifeanyi Okowa,  has said that the day has become a reminder for Nigerians to be more united in building a stronger nation.

Okowa in a message posted on his Facebook page on Sunday morning,  urged Nigerians as individuals and as groups to be committed to a better Nigeria.

June 12 which has been declared an annual public holiday is used to commemorate the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election. As such, Monday,  June 13 has been declared public holiday by the Federal Government.

Governor Okowa’s message reads, “<span;>As citizens of this great nation, every year, we commemorate June 12th as our Democracy Day and the journey that continues to bring us closer to establishing freer, fairer, and more transparent elections.

“It is a reminder of the sacrifices of countless of our past heroes, the struggles of millions of our citizens, and an acknowledgment of all our efforts to build a secure, united, and more prosperous nation.

“This year, as we mark this milestone, both in our state and across the nation, we are reminded that we all have our individual roles to play in building our #StrongerDelta and creating a better Nigeria for all Nigerians.

“Happy #DemocracyDay Nigeria!”
