Chelsea secured a dominant 2-0 victory over Everton on Saturday, but the performance of defender Malo Gusto stole the headlines, earning high praise from Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer.
Gusto delivered an exceptional performance, directly contributing to both of Chelsea’s goals by registering an assist for Cole Palmer’s opener in the first half and finding the back of the net himself in the second.
Speaking to the BBC, Shearer singled out the France international, noting that Gusto’s impact went far beyond his goal contributions.
“Malo Gusto was the stand-out Chelsea player for me, not just in terms of the obvious with the goal and assist,” Shearer stated.
He highlighted the tactical brilliance of the full-back, who was utilized in an inverted role against the visitors at Stamford Bridge.
Shearer praised his dynamic movement and link-up play: “Also the questions he posed for Everton—linking up with Palmer and Neto down the right and moving into midfield alongside James to create the extra man when needed.”
The win propelled Chelsea into the 4th position on the Premier League table.
The Blues will next shift their focus to cup action, facing Cardiff City in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.
