A middle-aged man, Andrawus James, has been remanded in a correctional facility by Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola, Adamawa State, after confessing to abducting his 18-year-old niece to sell her for ₦7 million.
James, a resident of Bai village in Fufore Local Government Area, was arraigned before Magistrate Dorcas Marvin on charges of abduction. The court ordered his remand pending legal advice from the State Department of Public Prosecutions.
Prosecuting officer ASP Ezra Bulus told the court that the incident was reported on August 16, 2026, by Mohamed Buba of New Market, Ganye. According to the police report, James approached Buba expressing a desire to get rich quickly and offered to sell his niece, Fatima.
The suspect subsequently negotiated a ₦7 million price tag and arranged the delivery logistics with Buba.
To execute the scheme, James contacted Fatima—who lived with her parents in Damare Ward, Yola South—promising he had secured a job for her in Abuja. He instructed her to keep the arrangement secret from her parents.
James picked up the victim and transported her to Ganye under the pretext of handing her over to an agent who would take her to the Federal Capital Territory. However, Buba had secretly alerted law enforcement, leading to James’ arrest upon arrival in Ganye.
