Ahmad Dan-wudil, Personal Assistant, Media, to Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, says the minister had achieved a lot since assuming office in 2023.

Dan-Wudil who said this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, said that significant among these achievements was Matawalle’s ability to persuade the seat of power to provide proper funding for the military.

He said that this had been with a view to boost the morale of the military, adding that such had not always been forthcoming under his conservative predecessors.

He noted that Matawalle, as one of the architects of the federal government’s integrated security review, together with other key stakeholders largely focused on developing hi-tech areas of the military to wage war against crimes impeding development and growth in the country.

He added that such crimes included insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, religious crisis and other forms of violence.

According to him, the minister has a penchant for plugging some of the funding gaps in key equipment programmes, and helping to re-establish defence as one of the government’s key spending priorities so that Nigeria can be safe and secure.

He also said that Matawalle’s recent visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to attend a conference of Ministers of Defence from Africa, Europe and Arab nations also opened fresh opportunities for the country to collaborate with more nations.

He said this was in working out strategies on issues that could help in mitigating the persistent and excruciating security challenges bedeviling the country.
