A medical helicopter crashed Monday morning on a busy stretch of Highway 50 in Sacramento, California, injuring the three crew members aboard, the air transport operator confirmed.
Critically, there was no patient on the aircraft at the time of the incident.
The aircraft, operated by REACH, came down on the eastbound side of the highway near 59th Street.
Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty confirmed on X that the three survivors were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
”We are in the process of determining the details of this situation, as well as the condition of the crew involved, who were all taken to area hospitals,” REACH told Reuters in an email.
The company provides air medical services for the critically ill and injured across the western United States.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Sacramento fire authorities and the regulator, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.
