The auditorium of University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, was the venue of the aptitude test which took place on Friday.

The Deputy Governor stated that the competitive nature of the scholarship scheme has made it to be endearing stating, ‘We have engaged in this scholarship programme for about nine years, that is, from about 2016.

“It is an annual event, so, if you are not successful this year, you can try again next year.

“The reason why we decided that we must conduct an aptitude test is to encourage the candidates to develop that competitiveness, because that was how we were trained in our school days; there is always a healthy competition for you to do your best, and when you pass, you will have that sense of fulfillment.

“In a way, it encourages the students in their academic activities when you make them to develop that spirit of reading; today, we are through with Ika Federal Constituency, tomorrow, we shall go to Kwale for Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency and on Sunday, we shall conduct that of Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency at Asaba.”

Also speaking at the venue of the test, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, who witnessed the process from beginning to the end, commended the Deputy Governor for using the Monday Onyeme Foundation to encourage reading culture and also, unify the people.

He said, “this is an opportunity that the Deputy Governor has created to help the people, especially those who find it difficult to help themselves through school and their parents who have sent them to school will also be happy of the achievement; even their children will be happy for the opportunity given to them.

“We urge our people to see that education brings light.

“We also urge students to stay focused and keep faith with the reason why they are in higher institutions and call on members of the society to support what our Deputy Governor is doing by giving back to the society because it is not only our parents that should support the child.

“People should emulate what our Deputy Governor is doing so that at the end of the day, we will have a lot of persons supporting our students, because, the Deputy Governor cannot do it all alone. Thank you very much.”

Some of those who attended the event include the Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Council, Hon. Monday Odigwe, wife of the Chairman of Ika South Local Government Council, Mrs Ifechukwu Ehiwarior, top officials of UNIDEL, some parents of the candidates, among other personalities monitored the examinations.
