He said, “The strike is successful. The few staff at the New Secretariat are mostly members of Trade Union Congress who cannot work without our members.

“It is very obvious that Cross River State is not interested in the welfare of her workers.

“Workers’ issues presented to government have been ignored; even some issues that organised labour have reached agreement on have all been abandoned and rejected by the government.

“Be informed that some of our workers whose names were unjustly removed from the payroll have died; we have lost about five members and we can no longer keep mum, enough is enough.

Newsden.com.ng observed that the most affected areas were offices at the new secretariat on Murtala Mohammed Highway and old secretariat in Calabar while the Trade Union Congress (TUC) pulled out of the strike citing challenging times as a result of the ravaging effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
