Delta State Commissioner for Works, Mr Noel Omordon, has assured commuters and road users of the Ugheli/Asaba Road of free flow of traffic on the failed portion of the road at Obo River axis at Ogwashi-Uku by Wednesday May 17, 2023.

Mr Omodon who stated this when he visited the failed site twice on Tuesday May 16, 2023 to see the extent of work being done by the contractor handling the Ughelli/Asaba Road dualization.

The road, currently being dualized by the state government, caved in at the Obo River axis of Ogwashi-Uku on Monday after the river, which was diverted to create space for the construction of a bridge overwhelmed the temporary channel, causing it to erode the soil and culverts underneath.

Omordon who visited the site in the morning of Tuesday May 16, 2023, to monitor the pace of work at the site, stated that excavators had been deployed to reopen the filled natural waterway and block the temporary channel to be able to pile the failed portion.

He revealed that the temporary channel had been blocked and the failed portion was being piled with laterite awaiting compaction before he left the site around 7pm.

“Having achieved this much, the road would be ready for use on Wednesday May 17, 2023.” The Works commissioner confidently told newsmen, even as he sympathized with road users, who have to take long alternative routes to get to their destination, for the inconvenience the development had caused them.
