Okowa Urges Religious Leaders To Be Strong, Resolute In Prayers

THE Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, has called on religious leaders to be strong and resolute in their prayers.

He made the call at the 2021 Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Day held in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area of the state.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, Okowa said that the state, amidst all speculations, religious leaders has remained peaceful which, according to him, was made possible by God.

He noted that in the past, the state had a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Religious Matters but now the position have been upgraded to Special Adviser to the Governor on Religion Matters and expressed satisfaction with the efforts of CAN towards the progress of the state through prayers.

Governor Okowa prayed God to continue to strengthen members of the body and give them the wisdom to carry out their religious services effectively.

The governor stated that he had taken note of their requests and pledged to study them with a view to proffer solutions.

Earlier, the Chairman of CAN, Delta State chapter, Senior Apostle Sylvanus Okorote, who called on all Christians not to relent in continuous prayers for peace, safety and security in the state, commended the governor for his support to CAN.

He urged all Christians to participate actively in governance by registering as members of a political party and ensuring that they obtain their Permanent Voters’ Card (PVCs) to enable them make a choice of a good ladder.

The CAN Chairman reminded the governor of his promises to provide the body with vehicles, land for retreat and funds to service retirees entitlements and called for the creation of Ministry of Religious Affairs to strength the church to promote peace and good governance in the state, assuring the governor of their continuous spiritual and moral support to his administration.

The ceremony featured special prayers for the state and the nation in general.
