In a bid to create an enabling environment for the indigent and less privileged in rural areas, a fast-growing Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Asaba, Princewill Azuka Onwuma Foundation, in partnership with Hon. Onwuma Kanebi George, has donated and installed solar panel systems in the Primary Health Care (PHC) in Oko-Ogbele and at Iyoyo Oko-Ndiobi Camp in Oshimili South Local Government Area, Delta State.

The installation of the Lumos Solar Panel System was geared towards improving the services of the community health workers and uplifting the suffering of those living in the suburb areas in the Oko axis, according to the donors.

Speaking to our correspondent at the Oko-Ndiobi camp, the Councilor representing Oko-Ogbele Ward 2, Hon. Onwuma George reiterated the need for the installation as it fulfilled one of his promises during his campaign.

In his words, “This is almost three years since I was elected a councilor and during my campaign, I promised my people camping in the interior axis (Oko-Ndiobi camp) of a solar panel since they do not have access to power supply, and seeing how stressful and risky it is having to cross the River Niger just to have their phones charged and be on the radar as these are basic amenities we enjoy in the city.

“Also, before I became a councilor, the primary health center had no matron, limited healthcare workers, no hospital equipment, no community school, and no power supply, resulting in inadequate and poor service delivery mostly among expectant mothers.

“A few months into being a councilor and with the help of Princewill Azuka Onwuma Foundation and a few others hope was restored to the community. Chairs, drugs, hospital facilities, and other things needed for the smooth running of the hospital were provided. I hereby call on the state government to look towards this direction to curb the hardship and reduce the sufferings of our people” Onwuma said.

On the sideline, the Coordinator of Princewill Azuka Onwuma Foundation, Asaba, Winifred Elunor, underscored the objectives of the foundation, which included: assisting the less privileged in the rural areas, providing care to children and elderly, improving the educational system, and providing hospital facilities to minimize the rate of child mortality among the people living in the rural area, and many more.

“The foundation is barely six months into space, and our profound gratitude is to the foreman, Princewill Azuka Onwuma and Hon. George Onwuma, for their passion in putting smiles on the faces of indigents. A lot needs to be done, no matter how small it is, if you have the resources do well to reach out to the less privileged, that will make the society a better place”, Elunor affirms

In reaction to the installation, the Community Health Officer, Mercy Mecha, said: “My joy is full because I won’t have to use my phone light or beckon on neighbors to support with theirs during delivery or critical situation. We can confidently discharge our duty be it day or night. May God bless and reward Hon. George Onwuma and Princewill Azuka Onwuma Foundation team”.

Similarly, in their separate speeches at Iyoyo Oko-Ndiobi camp, the Woman Leader, Mrs. Cecilia Okeke, Rose Enyenyer, and Camp Chairman, Mr. Nwanezenagu Okagbe assured the benefactors of full commitment to the maintenance of the solar box machine.
