CHEVRON: Otuaro Urges Protesters To Allow Govt To Intervene

DEPUTY Governor of Delta State, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro has urged protesting women and youths of Ugborodo Community in Escravos, Warri South West Local Government Area of the state time to give government time to negotiate on their behalf.

Special Assistant, Media, to Otuaro, Elohor Agbra, reports that the women and youths were protesting against Chevron Nigeria Limited, for not adhering to the memorandum of understanding reached by both parties, unemployment for their graduates, neglect of the area which has brought a hurt to the aquatic lives in the environment among others.

Deputy Governor Otuaron appealed to the protesters to give government time to dialogue with the oil company and host communities to arrive at a conclusion that will be beneficial to both parties for meaningful development.

He stated that the welfare of Deltans is paramount to the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration, disclosing that it was Okowa who asked him to come and appeal to them to give peace a chance.

The member representing Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi and the Ologbotsere of Warri kingdom, Chief Ayiri Emami, also lend their voices in calling for calm and peaceful conduct in the community, assuring them that in no distant time issues raised would be addressed.
