Rotarian Egbo Donates Wheel Chairs To People Living With Disabilities

THE 5th President of the Rotary Club of Jos, Utan, Ambassador Jane Ogo Egbo, has urged well to do Nigerians to reduce the number of beggers on the street by empowering them to engage in more meaningful activities.

Egbo made the call when she presented wheel chairs to people living with disabilities to ease their transportation challenges in Jos, Plateau State.

According to her, beggers could be removed from the streets of the country if well to do individuals and organisations could empower them to engage in meaningful ventures.

She urged beneficiaries of her gestures which cuts across ethnic and religious lines to use the wheel chairs to go to school and do their businesses, warning the beneficiaries not to use the wheel chairs for arms begging.

Egbo appealed to the Plateau State government to support the leadership of the Rotary Club to actualize her dreams.

She disclosed that, the investiture which took place on the day, was used by Rotarians to raise funds, induction of new members and make members to support the projects they would want to carry out.

Egbo, highlighted some of the projects they want to carry out within the one year tenure to include; provision of toilet facilities at selected government Schools in Jos, as well as the building of a borehole at abattoirs, among others.

”You know what is happening in this COVID-19 pandemic, and you can’t go to a market where there is no water and toilet facilities and we identified these essential facilities to ease the suffering of the people.

”We have during the visited orphanage homes and made some donations, we also donated items to pregnant women.

“We also conducted tree planting at the leadership training center, Sherri Hills.”

Guest Speaker at the event, Prof. Benedicta Dauda, who spoke on the topic, “Rotarians as agent of change,” commended Egbo for taken bold steps to reach out to the needy, stressing that, as agent of change, the primary responsibility of Rotary Club members at their work places is to take actions and carry out interventions where necessary.

She challenge the Rotarians to be passionate in creating positive change among the people, as well as building bridges and touching lives of the less privileged.

Dauda noted that the provision of wheel chairs to the phisically challenged by the president was a remarkable step worth emulating by all.

Also speaking, Chairman of the occasion, P D S Kingsley Okeke- Agulu, appealed to the invited guests, and members of the club to support the newly elected president to enable her succeed in actualizing her dreams.
