THE contractor handling the triple cell box culvet on the rehabilitation of Old Lagos Bypass Road linking the Expressway by Okpanam Junction have been instructed to stop further works on the project and evacuate all precast drains immediately.

The State Commissioner for Works, Urban and Highways, Mr Noel Omodon gave the directive on Friday while inspecting the quality of job done on the project.

The Urban and Highways Works Commissioner, stated that he stopped to work because he needed to compare what the contractor was doing and has done so far with what the Ministry has in its drawing so as to know what exactly was to be done.

Mr Omodon frowned at the quality of job done so far by the contractor, saying that the quality of the concrete done by the contractor may not withstand the weight of vehicles that would ply on it, even as he urged the contractor to meet with the Directorate of Project Monitoring to do a hammer test on the work done.

According to Mr Omodon, “I have had cause to question the quality of what the contractor is doing to see if he has got everything right because the governor has no tolerance for failure. He want the people to get quality and sufficient service and benefit.

The commissioner explained that the essence of the project was to collect all the water that come from Okpanam area and channel it to the other side so that it would pass through the natural water way.

“It is about storm water, erosion control, to stop the water that normally gather on the road when it rains thereby causing unnecessary build up on the express road at Okpanam Junction on the Benin-Onitsha Express Way,” the works commissioner explained.
