As part of efforts to monitor the activities of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps in the state, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah has, visited camps in Oleh, Ozoro and Utagba-Ogbe communities in the state.

At the St. Michael College camp in Oleh, which was set up by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission (DESOPADEC) as part of its interventionists efforts in assisting flood victims from the area, the SSG commended the management of DESOPADEC for its proactive measures in setting up the camp, which he said will complement the government’s efforts to mitigate the impact of the flood on displaced persons from within
those communities.

He equally commended the camp officials for the smooth running of the camp and urged them to keep up the good work.

Chief Ukah urged them to appoint leaders from among the IDPs so they can channel information through them to the people.

He said this will help to douse tension and create a harmonious atmosphere in the camps.

As regards sanitation in the camps, the SSG directed the Camp Commandants to put modalities in place for the effective disposal of refuse so as to curtail the spread of diseases in the camps

The SSG stated that teaching and learning will begin in the camps from Monday and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education will kickstart the process.

While sympathizing with the IDPs in the camps visited, he assured them that the administration of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa will do everything within its resources to alleviate their plight.
