Flood survivors in Oshimili South Local Government Area have been given more reasons to prefer the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over other political parties ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Their convictions resounded when the Oshimili South Chapter of the PDP, led by its chairman, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji visited all the camps in Asaba and Oko communities to donate foodstuff and other relief materials.

Items donated by the party to the flood survivors in Ogbe-Afor camp, Oneh camp, Berger camp, Usonia campsite, and other sites in Oko communities include bags of rice, bags of beans, tubers of yams, bags of garri, cartons of noodles, toiletries and assortments necessary to improve their welfare.

Ogbueshi Okonji, who was accompanied by the 2023 candidate of the PDP to represent Oshimili South Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Bar Bridget Anyafulu, and other party faithful, empathized with the survivors on their losses as a result of the floods.

He expressed optimism that the emergence of Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as President and Vice President respectively, would bring a lasting solution to tackle the flood menace by dredging the Niger River.

The party chairman further made a case on why other candidates of the PDP at all levels should be supported, stressing that such overall victory would enable better formulation and implementation of policies, and programs from the national to the grassroots levels.

Addressing newsmen after the exercise, Ogbueshi Okonji said, ‘’we, the Oshimili South PDP, decided that we cannot fold our hands and watch our people bear the burden of the flood disaster alone.

‘’This was why we ensured that we must visit them to compliment what Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is doing to ameliorate their plights. We pray that come 2023 when Atiku and Okowa will become the President and Vice President respectively, the Niger River will be dredged as a lasting solution to the floods’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Barr Anyafulu said that the visit of the PDP to the camps has encouraged the survivors, even as she hoped that the floods would recede to enable them to return to their livelihoods.

She thanked Governor Okowa for placing adequate measures in line with global best practices to accommodate and feed victims of the flood through the Bureau for Special Duties and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

In the same vein, the Chairman of the Oshimili South PDP Flood Intervention Committee, Ogbueshi Chike Ifesiokwu, said that the initiative was in compliance with the directive of the governor for all elected and appointed officials to get involved in alleviating the sufferings of those affected by the floods.

‘’Today’s outing has demonstrated that the Delta State Government and the party in position (PDP) is responsive and alive to the responsibility of its people. It has also shown that the party and the government are responsive to the challenges of the people’’ Ifesiokwu said.

At some of the camps visited, Mr. Emeka Ossai, Mr. Daniel Okpor, and Mr. Eugene Onwenonye who spoke for the campers thanked the PDP and pledged their support for all candidates of the party ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
