Anambra State Govt Assures NPC Of Assistance In 2023 General Housing, Population Census

THE  Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has identified valuable and accurate data as a veritable instrument for effective planning.

Governor Soludo stated this while receiving the Leadership of the National Population Commission at the Government House Awka.

Governor Soludo while welcoming the team led by the Chairman Honorable Isa Kwarra assured that the proposed 2023 general housing and population census will be conducted peacefully in Anambra, as his government will ensure adequate technical assistance and needed public awareness across the State.

The Governor commended the Commission for their commitment and harped on the need for accurate census which he said is very critical for effective planning and service delivery.

The Chairman of the Commission, Honourable Isa Kwarra, who led the team that comprises Commissioners and Directors in the Commission said that the visit has become imperative given the need for effective collaboration between the Commission and the State government in their bid to deliver a more accurate, reliable and credible Census come 2023.

Honourable Kwarra, who thanked Governor Soludo for his support noted that they will always sort for his wise council as they strive to set a standard using the 2023 Population Census.

The Commission delegation is in the State to supervise the ongoing pilot exercise of the Commission’s trial Census for the preparation of next year’s digital Housing and Population Census using Idemili South as the test case.

The Commission has commenced the Trial Census exercise which is aimed at testing all aspects of Census operations, from planning to implementation and Idemili South Local Government Area is selected for Anambra State and will be fully covered for the Trial Census exercise.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Anambra Head of Service; Barrister Theodora Igwegbe, the Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Protocol to the Governor, Mr. Chinedu Nwoye among others were present during the visit.
