CHRISTIANS have been urged to rise up against jealousy as it is a vice that causes damages.
Rev. Fr. Hilary Ibegbulem made the call on Sunday morning while delivering a sermon during the celebration of Holy Mass at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba, Delta State.
According to him, “as human beings, we have the tendency to be jealous but, we should know that when we are jealous, we can do all sorts of evil.
“It was jealousy that made Cain to do what he did to his brother, Abel, even in families, friendship, jealousy causes disaffection.
“We know the story of Joseph in the Bible; the end result of jealousy is always very bad.
“Don’t let jealousy go above you; jealousy makes you to hate someone for no reason, it robs us of our happiness; it destroys friendship.
“Rise up above jealousy; start to appreciate others especially when they are doing things that we are not able to do.
“Learn to appreciate the good in others; stand against jealousy because, jealousy is a vice, it is a bad behaviour; humility is a virtue.
“Every good behaviour is a virtue, so, vice is bad behaviour that we should abhor.
“We should rise up above jealousy; if we are not watchful, we can easily become jealous if we see that someone is doing something we believe it is only us that can do or see someone doing what we have tried to do without succeeding.
“Jealousy can cause a lot of harm, it can lead to threat; everybody is not the same; God did not do wrong by giving us different gifts, we should discover our gifts and use them to glorify the name of God by our actions.”
The Holy Mass featured special thanksgiving by the parishioners.
