The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has officially passed an explicit vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, declaring them the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The decisive endorsement was reached unanimously on Sunday during a massive APC Stakeholders Meeting held at the State Banquet Hall in Asaba, drawing together Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, key leaders, lawmakers, commissioners, and political heavyweights from across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Keyamo Justifies Endorsement with Reforms
The motion for the vote of confidence and adoption was moved by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, and seconded by former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei.
Keyamo praised President Tinubu’s administration for its “bold reforms and transformative leadership.”
He specifically cited the fuel subsidy removal as a “responsible policy decision” that has successfully redirected billions into critical national projects, mentioning the recently approved $1 billion for the Warri port resuscitation and the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project.
Oborevwori Warns Against Disloyalty
In his acceptance speech, Governor Oborevwori expressed profound gratitude for the confidence reposed in him but used the moment to issue a strong message about party unity and loyalty.
”In 2027, our votes will be our report card,” the Governor stated, warning against internal sabotage.
“Some in power today didn’t work for the APC, but we know them, loyalty will be rewarded, not hypocrisy,’ he said.
The Governor highlighted his focus on infrastructural development, citing the ongoing ₦59 billion Uromi Junction flyover and the ₦39 billion Ughelli Flyover projects, asserting that the state is managing resources efficiently and that the President’s economic reforms are yielding results on the ground.
Okowa, Lawmakers Affirm Unity
The momentum was further cemented by other high-profile leaders. Immediate past Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, described his recent move to the APC as “the right step in the right direction,” praising Oborevwori’s unifying and inclusive leadership which has strengthened the state party chapter.
The State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, declared the party “formidable and unstoppable” under Oborevwori’s performance. National Assembly members, including Senators Ede Dafinone, Ned Nwoko, and Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, collectively affirmed the sentiment, declaring, “there is no vacancy till 2031” and pledging total support for the ticket.
