The First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Tuesday, inaugurated the newly completed Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital in Ughelli North Local Government Area. She described the facility as a “beacon of hope, healing, and humanity” for the people of the local government.

The hospital’s completion marks a significant milestone in the Ughelli North Local Government’s healthcare expansion drive.

In her address, the First Lady expressed deep gratitude to the Local Government Council for naming the facility after her, stating that the honour underscored the value placed on her contributions to the welfare of Deltans.

”It gladdens my heart to know that my modest contributions are being recognized and valued. It feels good to be home, home sweet home,” she remarked.

Deaconess Oborevwori lauded her husband’s significant reforms in the state’s health sector, citing key achievements:

  • Dialysis Fee Reduction: The cost of dialysis has been reduced from N75,000 to N40,000.
  • Equipment Provision: New dialysis and CT machines have been provided across government hospitals.
  • Infrastructure: Rehabilitation is ongoing for \text{150} Primary Healthcare Centres across the \text{25} Local Government Areas.

“God will help the Governor to achieve more. He is working, and it is showing,” she declared.

The First Lady also highlighted the impact of her ‘You Mata Charity Foundation’, noting a recent free medical outreach conducted for children with special needs in Ughelli, which provided medications, wheelchairs, and assistive devices.

She recalled a touching moment where a woman who delivered triplets received over N8.1 million raised through spontaneous donations, describing the gesture as “a testimony of God’s grace.” She assured that similar medical outreaches would be extended to Delta North and Delta South senatorial districts.

Hon. Jaro Egbo, the Local Government Council Chairman, stated that the new hospital was conceived as part of his administration’s strategic plan to strengthen the local health system, reiterating, “Healthcare is not a privilege for a few, but a right for all.”

He thanked Governor Oborevwori for providing an enabling environment for development, noting that the Renewed Hope For MORE Agenda has been the foundation for executing key projects like the cottage hospital. Egbo also urged residents to take ownership and protect the facility from vandalism.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Miller Uloho, praised Governor Oborevwori for his “exceptional leadership,” recalling his role in resolving long-standing land acquisition disputes that threatened the Osubi airport project. He described the Governor as “a naturally gifted leader.”

Dr. Tega Ighovo, Executive Secretary of the Ughelli North Primary Healthcare Development Agency, confirmed the hospital is fully equipped with modern facilities, including an ambulance and diagnostic equipment, positioning it to serve as a referral centre for primary healthcare clinics across the LGA.
