THE Delta State Government has commenced the presentation of cheques to state medalists at the 20th National Sports Festival, ‘Edo 2020’.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah while presenting the cheques to the medalists at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Asaba, charged the athletes to continue to be good ambassadors of the state.

Chief Ukah said the disbursement was in fulfilment of the promise made by the state Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to the athletes during the festival.

He said the state government was happy with the medalists for their achievements and commended the athletes and officials, led by the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa, for winning the competition.

The SSG noted that the government’s gesture would spur the athletes to do more in ensuring that Delta State wins the next sports festival billed to hold in Asaba.

He prayed God to give them the wisdom, strength, obedience and commitment to continue to win medals for the state.

It would be recalled that the state hauled a total of 163 gold, 115 silver and 112 bronze medals to emerge first at the festival.

Highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of cheques to the winners by the SSG on behalf of the state Governor.
