GOODWILL MESSAGE BY
HIS EXCELLENCY, SIR MONDAY ONYEME, FCA, THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE / CHAIRMAN, DELTA STATE BOUNDARY COMMITTEE, AT THE ONE-DAY HIGH-LEVEL NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON BORDER SECURITY, RESILIENCE AND CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION, HELD AT THE LADI KWALI HALL, CONTINENTAL HOTEL, ABUJA, ON MONDAY 15TH JUNE, 2026

It is my pleasure to participate in this important One-Day High-Level National Workshop on Border Security, Resilience and Cross-Border Cooperation organized by the National Boundary Commission, Abuja.

On behalf of His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, the Government and people of Delta State, I commend the National Boundary Commission for convening this timely and strategic forum aimed at addressing contemporary challenges in border governance and fostering stronger intergovernmental and inter-agency collaboration.

The theme of this workshop “Border Security, Resilience and Cross Border Cooperation” resonates strongly with the realities confronting our nation today. Border security and resilience have become critical components of National Development, Peace building, Economic Growth and Social Stability. Effective border management not only safeguards national sovereignty but also promotes lawful trade, enhances community security and strengthens cooperation among neighbouring states and communities.

As a coastal and boundary state, Delta State appreciates the importance of sustained collaboration among stakeholders in addressing boundary-related issues, preventing conflicts, promoting peaceful coexistence and harnessing the opportunities inherent in cross-border interactions. We recognize that resilient border communities are indispensable to national security and sustainable development.

I am particularly pleased that this workshop will examine innovative approaches to border management, including the application of modern technology, community engagement strategies, and collaborative frameworks that strengthen security while promoting socio-economic development.

The focus on Maritime Governance and
the Blue Economy is equally commendable, considering their immense potential for national growth and prosperity.

I am confident that the deliberations at this workshop will generate practical insights, actionable recommendations and policy options that will further strengthen border Governance and enhance cooperation among relevant stakeholders across the country.
As participants, we have a collective responsibility to translate the outcomes of this engagement into concrete actions that will advance peace, security and development within our border communities and the nation at large.

Once again, I congratulate the National Boundary Commission for this laudable initiative and wish all participants fruitful deliberations and a successful workshop.

Thank you and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Office of the Deputy Governor,
Government House,
Asaba
