A Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. John Konyeke, Ph.D., has called on Christians to evaluate their true self-worth, treasure the word of God, and realign their personal desires with divine purpose.
Delivering a Homily during the 80th birthday Thanksgiving Mass of Mr Boniface Ebonwu on Sunday at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba, Delta State, Rev. Fr. Konyeke stressed the transformative power of a genuine encounter with Jesus Christ, drawing rich lessons from the life of Mary Magdalene.
Mr Boniface Ebonwu was among the first managers of The Pointer who came from The Nigerian Observer.
Fr. Konyeke reminded the congregation that Mary Magdalene had suffered for many years until Jesus intervened, cast out seven demons, and restored her life.
He said, “she encountered Jesus and joined the company of women that followed Him because Jesus had done something nobody could do for her.
“When Jesus called her name, ‘Mary,’ she instantly recognized her Master’s voice; Mary understood the importance of appreciating good, and she embraced Him fully.
”You must know Jesus for you to love Him.
”Ask the question: ‘What does God want?’ not what you want, appreciate Him for what He is doing in your life.
“We thank God for the life of Ezinna Boniface Ebonwu.”
The Priest offered prayers for Mr Ebonwu who was accompanied by his children, grand children, friends and well wishers in thanksgiving.
Rev. Fr. Hilary Ibegbulem, Rev. Fr. John-Paul Anakwuo, the Senior Special Assistant, Media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo, retired civil servants, among others attended the Thanksgiving Mass.
