The Director-General (DG) of the Delta State Orientation Bureau, Eugene Azuka Uzum, has called for the building of additional dams in Nigeria.

Uzum stated this on the NTA International alongside other guests who took an overview of the ravaging flooding across the coaster parts of the country.

Others who spoke included the DG of NIMET, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and the representative of NEMA.

Uzum stated the various measures the Delta State Government had immediately put on ground to manage the flooding situation in the state, following the alert from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and other weather forcast agencies.

He said that an all embracing committee, headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Patrick Ukah, had been set up, among other moves, to manage the situation in the state.

He added that the state orientation bureau had vigorously taken the sensitisation of the people, particularly residents in the flood prone areas of the state, on the flood situation.

Uzum reiterated the need to build more dams to supplement the Kanji and Shiroro dams which were said to be bigger that the one in Cameroon and still could not stem floodings in the country.

He said that apart from the new dams absorbing excessive water during the raining seasons, the dammed water could be used in the country for irrigation farming in the dry seasons.
