Govt. To Control Igwogwo Erosion Menace

AS Igwogwo erosion threatens lives and property at Amachai, Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State,  government will check its expansion, Commissioner for Environment,  Chief Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu has said.

Speaking when he paid on-the-spot assessment visit to the site, the Commissioner expressed dismay that his office was not informed about the erosion site which has cut off the major road linking Okpanam and Akwukwu-Igbo and has already claimed more than half of alternative road and few meters to residential buildings.

He assured the people of the community that his office would liaise with necessary Agencies to proffer lasting solution to the problem.

Chief.Asiuwhu who was shocked on the dangerous and threatening nature of the erosion site said there was urgent need for intervention.

He said he will report back to the Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as the situation requires urgent intervention.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo who accompanied the commissioner to the site said the gully erosion had become a great threat to lives and property of those living in the area.

He said the community has been passing through hardship especially when it rains stressing that urgent solution was needed.

The Chairman, Amachai Quarters, Okpanam, Comrade Emma Agala, expressed gratitude to the commissioner for the visit saying that the situation was getting worse every day.

He appealed to the state government to come to their aid to avoid further damages.

Comrade Agala said the community had tried to find solution but all was in vain as their efforts was not enough.
