Maris Nursery and Primary School, Okpanam on Wednesday, defeated Noble Academy in the first preliminary football match for Headmaster’s Cup.
The tournament which is for all Nursery and Primary Schools in Delta State commenced with a football match between Maris Schools and Noble Academy in the zonal matches for Oshimili North Local Government Area.

The action-packed round leather game played at the football pitch of St. Patrick”s College, Asaba saw Master Ikechukwu Chukwunekwu of Maris Schools scoring the first goal but Master Noah Enarusai who manned the goal post for Maris Schools after much pressure from boys of Noble Academy, conceded a goal scored through a free-kick.
At the end of 90 minutes, it was still 1-1 for both teams which made the match to go into penalties for winner to be decided.
At the end, the match ended 6-5 in favour of Maris Schools.
The Oshimili North Schedule Officer in charge of Sports, Mrs Asisisi Florence, said that it was a fair game, disclosing that Maris Schools will slug it out with pupils of Umegbali Primary School, Okpanam, on Thursday.
Coaches of Maris Schools, Miss Jennifer Agbo and Mr Idris Oladimeji, enthused that the players would be better prepared for subsequent matches and expressed hope that they will do well in the tournament.
