A hit and run vehicle at the UBA end of the Aroma junction flyover, Awka, Anambra State has led to the untimely death of a man.

The man, identified as Engineer Robert Ofoegbu, was trying to cross the expressway when he was knocked down.

He was said to hail from Azigbo, in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to one Mr. Chukwudi Obiegbunam, who arrived the accident scene and introduced himself as the President-General of the community, eyewitnesses at the scene, including Mr. Uchenna Chukwubuikem and Princess Salome Egede, attributed the incident to over-speeding and careless crossing of the highway.

They called for construction of pedestrian bridge at the spot and other strategic areas to avert similar incident.

FRSC officials, who arrived the scene shortly, took the victim to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, for medical examination, where he was confirmed dead by a Medical Doctor on duty, and his body deposited at the facility’s mortuary.

Anambra State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, warned drivers to avoid speeding, especially in built-up areas, but to use maximum speed limit of fifty kilometer per hour.

He equally advised pedestrians to use safest means of crossing the road if need arises, and to be careful while doing same.

Undisclosed amount of money, rosary, mobile phones, phone charger and assorted recharge cards were found on the victim.
