A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Chief Godwill Obielum, has said the conferment of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) by President Muhamadu Buhari on the Vice Presidential candidate of the party, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa was a clear recognition for a passionate nationalist.
Chief Obielum, in a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen in Asaba, Delta State, observed that Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has distinguished himself as someone who was committed to the affairs of the country.
He disclosed that the Vice Presidential candidate’s antecedents have singled him out as someone who is living a life of service to Nigeria and humanity and commended President Buhari for placing a round peg in a round hole as exemplified with the award.
“As an individual, I am very happy that President Mohammadu Buhari got it right this time around with the conferment of the Commander of the Order of the Niger, CON award on the Vice Presidential candidate of our great party, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
“The antecedents of Sen. Dr. Okowa, who is also our Governor over the years, has distinguished him as someone who is very compassionate and committed to the affairs of the country.
“In the political scene, he has served in various elective and appointive positions from the local government to the federal levels and while in the Senate and as a Governor his nationalistic outlook came to the fore as evident with the enactment of the National Health Act, the roles he played during the COVID-19 era, his contributions to the revival of Nigeria economy and his accommodating posture for all Nigerians.
“The award of CON on our Vice Presidential candidate, no doubt, was also a clear attestation to the fact that Mr President and other Nigerians recognise that he has a lot more to offer our great nation ones he emerges as Vice President in 2023.
“As such, on behalf of my family, my political family, friends and followers, I congratulate our Vice Presidential candidate and our Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for bagging the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) award.”
