The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Anambra North Chapter members have demonstrated that youths are the bedrock of the society as they paid a charity visit to inmates of Onitsha Correctional Centre.
The visit sponsored by the patron of the group and President General of Umueri Progressive Union, Chief John Metchie, was aimed at reminding youths of their roles in the Nation’s building, including those at the Correctional Centre and to give them hope of a new beginning if they adhere to the reformation they receive at the centre.
Chief Metchie who was represented by Comrade Joshua Winner, regretted how some youths engage in different forms of crime that jeopardizes their future, and called on those at the Correctional center to be mindful of the act that brought them to the centre and use the opportunity of their staying to have a rethink about their life, reconcile with God and become better persons when they come out.
While regretting the economic situation in the country, Chief Metchie admonished youths to be calm, remain law-abiding and engage in meaningful ventures that will better their life and eschew any act that could mar their future.
On his part, the Zonal Chairman of NYCN, Comrade Peter Nnekwe told the inmates to humble themselves and accept their formations they are given at the centre and always pray and believe God that one day, they will be free and become better persons and noted that as youth leaders, they are not happy that many youths are languishing in prisons while there are lots of responsibilities awaiting them for the growth of the society.
One of the advisory members of the group, Mr Anthony Aniekwo said that the condition of the inmates at the centre give them cause for concern.
The Onitsha South Leader of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Frankly Onyeke thanked the Prison Wardens for their efforts in reforming the inmates.
The visit featured a presentation of gifts to the inmates.
