The Onitsha South Stakeholders Forum, on December 8, celebrated several of its members with “Awards of Excellence” in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the party, particularly their roles before, during, and after the recent governorship election that produced a historic 21/21 victory.

Upholding the Igbo proverb “Onye olu nwere ugwo”—meaning a labourer deserves his wages the Forum used the occasion to acknowledge the dedication and sacrifices of members whose efforts have continued to benefit both the party and the people of the area.

Speaking during the ceremony held at Portsmouth Hotel & Suites, Fegge, the Mayor of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Emeka Orji, praised the stakeholders for their unwavering commitment, support, and resilience. He commended them for their remarkable performance during the electioneering period, noting that winning all polling units across the 17 wards of the LGA was a collective achievement.

Mayor Orji expressed optimism for a “new and greater Onitsha South” by 2026 and wished the constituents a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance. He also announced that the council will host a “Beginning of the Year Celebration” in January 2026 to complement the end-of-year festivities.

Representing the National Chairman of APGA, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, former Caretaker Committee Chairman Chief Emeka Asoanya conveyed Ezeokenwa’s appreciation for the honour. Asoanya, who also received an award, applauded the people of Onitsha South for their massive support for APGA during the election.

Another awardee, Chief Linus Ezenkwu (Nkwubuego), described the day as extraordinary and credited the present administration under Mayor Orji for delivering good governance since the creation of the LGA.

He highlighted recent achievements such as the provision of a fire service truck something the area had lacked for years and the attraction of a general hospital.

Also honoured was Ambassador Festus Okorie Odugwo, CEO of Manfes Pharmaceuticals and owner of Portsmouth Hotel & Suites.

In his remarks, High Chief Ezema Nicodemus (Omagba 1) praised Mayor Orji’s leadership, quoting the scripture: “People rejoice when the righteous is on the throne.” He reaffirmed his support for the Forum and the administration.

Gift presentations were made to several notable stakeholders, including: Chief Bonaventure Muo (Omekaodimma) – Chairman, Ochanja Market; Chief Onyeka Nebedum (Olori) – CEO, Nebesco Energy Groups; High Chief Ukeje Desmond (Tallest) and Chief Kingsley Anietonwa Ajulufo – the President, Onitsha Country Club, Fegge, Onitsha.

A memorable moment came when Hon. Sylvester Okafor, whose birthday fell on December 8, presented a cake to the stakeholders. Okafor, a House of Assembly aspirant, thanked them for their continuous support of Governor Charles Soludo’s re-election.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including former APGA House of Representatives candidate Hon. Mrs. Anthonia Tabansi, Presidents General of the four communities in Onitsha South, ward councillors, and other community leaders.
