The Supervisor for Education in Onna LGA, Pastor Victor Dickson, has reminded teachers, parents, and other stakeholders in education of the need for punctuality, regular attendance and dedication to duty as schools resumed on Monday for the 2026-2027 academic year in Akwa Ibom State.

He restated this on Monday when he led the Education Management Team of the council to monitor activities across some public schools in the area.

Dickson said that it was not in doubt that the quality of education received by pupils largely depended on the commitment of educators and the availability of a conducive learning environment.

Dickson said that the Council’s Education Management Team visited schools in its domain to assess the level of compliance following the resumption of the new academic session.

He said that the team also visited the schools to ensure their readiness for academic activities, assess the attendance of teachers and pupils as well as the general condition of school facilities, and the readiness of school administrators to start effective teaching and learning.

Dickson and his team visited the St. John’s Lutheran School, Okat; QIC Primary School, Ndon Eyo; Primary School, Ikot Ese Ishiet; Primary School, Awa Ubium; UACC Primary School, Ikot Akpan Ishiet; Government Primary School, Ikot Akpatek; and Government Primary School, Nung Oku Ekanem.

At the various schools, Pastor Dickson and members of the Team interacted with teachers and school administrators, inspected the school premises and assessed the level of preparedness for the academic session.

Dickson said that the exercise was part of the council administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector and ensuring that pupils in Onna Local Government Area received quality and uninterrupted education.

According to him, the exercise is also designed to identify areas requiring urgent attention and provide relevant feedback to the council authorities for appropriate action.

He commended teachers and school administrators who had resumed promptly and demonstrated readiness to discharge their responsibilities, urging them to sustain the commitment throughout the academic session.

He also urged parents and guardians to complement the efforts of the Government by ensuring that their children and wards attended school regularly and were committed to their studies.

The Education Supervisor said the initiative was in line with the education priorities of the Executive Chairman of Onna LGA, Kufre Umoren.

According to Dickson, the Chairman of Councill places a high premium on human capital development and the advancement of education in the local government area.

He added that the council’s commitment was also consistent with the broader educational objectives of the Akwa Ibom State Government under the ARISE Agenda, particularly the drive to improve the standard of education and create opportunities for children and young people to acquire the knowledge and skills required for their future.

Dickson assured that the council’s Education Management Team would continue to undertake regular monitoring visits to schools across ONNA to ensure compliance with Government policies and promote effective teaching and learning.

He said the council would continue to work with teachers, parents, traditional institutions, and other stakeholders to address challenges in the education sector and build a stronger foundation for the development of children in Onna.

The monitoring team included the Education Secretary, Mrs. Evelyn Isemin; the NUT Chairman, Onna Chapter, Elder Samuel Edem; Head of Academic Services, Mrs. Helen Akpan; and a member of the Onna Local Government Council Education Monitoring, Committee, Mr. David Robson.
