He stated that despite the fact that Engr. Okonye is not a political appointee nor involved in the execution of contracts in the state, he has sustained the political pressure group and ensured people’s support for government and its activities.

The Deputy Governor said, “today is a good day, the leader of our party, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, said that I should salute all of you, he said that I should urge you not to waver in your support for his administration.

‘Dividends of democracy is coming in different forms to our people, especially, our people at the grassroots.

“As a government, we are not only executing projects that will be beneficial to all, we are also appointing people, employing people into several positions in government apart from empowerment programnes that are beneficial to different categories of persons in our dear state, Delta.

“I commend Engr Mishack Okonye for organizing this ‘thank you’ programme that is more about empowerment for those who are in support of our administration.

“He has supported the Community Development Committees, CDCs and our Vigilante Groups, if we have successful, proactive CDCs and Vigilante Groups, we will have peaceful communities and the enabling environment for us to develop our communities.

“While I commend Engr Mishack Okonye for this programme, I urge our people in Delta State to do what they have to do for the betterment of the society, it is not all about criticism, we are all stakeholders in uplifting our people, a little assistance will go a long way; our administration is about partnership that will lead to the empowerment, development of our communities, our state because looking inward, we ask ourselves the question, ‘what have I really done for my people aside what government is doing?’

“Why I am happy with the strengthening of the CDCs and Vigilante Groups is because when they are proactive, progressive in their actions and we have peaceful communities, the dividends of democracy will be enormous.

“Today is not for speech making but it is important to state that positive actions attract benefits, so, as an Onicha Ukwuani indigene, as a Deltan, engage in only positive activities because of the multifaceted benefits.”

Engr. Mishack Okonye stated that his desire is for all Deltans to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, stating that he will continue to sponsor the activities of his group.

“This is the first time that we are having a Deputy Governor in the person of Sir Monday Onyeme from Ndokwa and he happens to be from our community, Onicha Ukwuani, so, all that we have to do to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, we will do for the government to succeed because the success of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration is the success of Ndokwa people in particular and Deltans in general.

Some of those who spoke at the occasion, including Chief Ferdinand Ossai, Chief Alika Ibobo, Mr Stephen Okunima and the beneficiaries of the support from Engr Mishack Okonye which ranges from communication gadgets for the Vigilante Groups, uniform for them, financial support for members of Mishack Okonye Support Group, among others, thanked Engr. Okonye for the initiative and pledged to continue with their support for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.
