The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D., has described the late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi as a pivotal figure in the state’s democratic journey.

“The late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi was a brother, a friend, and a party man to us.

”He was a politician that everyone loved; he was fearless, and those of us of Delta North extraction in particular loved him so much because we saw him as one of the main persons who established the political stability Delta State enjoys today.

”You know that the three Senatorial districts in Delta State have an unwritten power-sharing formula, at a point in time, it appeared as if it was not going to work, but one of the people who made sure it worked and we thank him for it today was Senator Nwaoboshi, back when he was the State Party Chairman.

”Without that, one would wonder what the lot of Delta State would be today.

“To God be the glory, through his efforts and those of others, we have a very peaceful and stable political environment in Delta State

”I am also particularly happy that those of you who were with him in the Senate knew him to the extent that you expressed here today.

“It gladdens our hearts when we hear good things about him coming from people outside of our State; it shows that he represented us very well in the Red Chamber.

”I want to thank you for coming to condole with Delta State and the immediate family of the late Senator Nwaoboshi, our prayer is that we should not see this kind of thing again; let people live until a very ripe age.”

The leader of the delegation, Sen. Matthew Urhoghide, who represented Edo South from 2015–2023, said, “we came into Delta on a sad note to pay a condolence visit because of the loss of our very good friend, colleague, and brother in the 8th and 9th Senate, Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.

”His death came to us as a very huge surprise.

“We know the political trajectory of the late Senator Nwaoboshi in Delta State, from Secretary of the party to Chairman of the party, and of course coming to the Senate in 2015 for two terms of eight years, he was a figure we admired and was very close to us.

”We have come to condole with the family and the government of Delta State; we know Senator Nwaoboshi’s death is a huge loss to the State and the country.

“Knowing the kind of strong character that he was, he was a very strong force from Delta in the Senate and a man of reverence.

“The Senate as an institution is saddened by his transition.”

Those who witnessed the courtesy call included Sen. Emmanuel Aguariavwado, Sen. Ighoyota Amori, and Sir Christopher Osakwe.
