The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has decried the spate of cultism in the society.

He said, “Whichever way anybody may look at it, cultism has not done this nation any good, it is a horrible, negative vice that has eaten deep into our society, anybody who can reverse the direction and make our people not to be interested, not to engage in cultism, that person is a real patriotic Nigerian that wish Nigeria and humanity good.

“We need to recruit as many people as possible to fight cultism, if we do not re-educate as many people as possible and if we do not live by example, show example to people that cultism is not a good thing, there will be a lot of challenges for our country in the future.

“So , you preach to people to make the difference and that is the only way we can revive our society so that all of us can feel safe, so that we can be comfortable that our children will be safe when we send them to schools and some other places.

“All of us desire good things, all of us desire Nigeria to be good, and we should sincerely work to make Nigeria a good place.”

He commended members of POCACOV for their commitment to fight against cultism, asserting, “your objectives are very noble, because cultism we all know has ravaged our society especially our youths; it is not limited to the youths but it has had the worst effects on them.”

Earlier, the Administrative Officer, POCACOV, Rt. Hon. Precious Ejenake, said the organisation was an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, and that it was aimed at saving Nigerian youths from the claws of cultism and others vices, making the environment safe and secured in line with the tenets of community oriented policing.

He noted that the aims and objectives was to sensitized members of the public on the dangers of belonging to cults groups, re-awaken the security consciousness of members of the public, to inculcate moral values in our youths and re-awaken that of adults.

The Commissioner, Youth Development, Comrade Agbateyiniro Isaac Weyinmi and Deputy Chief of Staff of Staff, Government House, Sir Christopher Osakwe, were among the dignitaries present to witness the visit.
